The unintended expat blogger behind Echo Quill Meadow

Hi there, I am Emma
I work as a project manager. A parent. An expatriate residing in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Some years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter living overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it began as a work opportunity and quickly grew into something much larger.
The first months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than they should.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Echo Quill Meadow
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Does (And Doesn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when real changes occur
This site is NOT:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Netherlands continues, and so does the learning process. As long as the information remains useful, I will keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or elsewhere in Netherlands, please get in touch.
Best regards,
Emma
